There are certain diagnoses that have FDA approval for the use of HBOT. These conditions include Air or Gas Embolism; Carbon Monoxide Poisoning and Smoke Inhalation; Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Complicated by Cyanide Poisoning; Clostridial Myonecrosis (Gas Gangrene); Crush Injury; Compartment Syndrome and other Acute Traumatic Ischemias; Decompression Sickness (the "Bends"); Enhancement of Healing in Selected Problem Wounds; Exceptional Blood Loss (Anemia); Necrotizing Soft Tissue Infections; Osteomyelitis (Refractory); Radiation Tissue Damage (Osteoradionecrosis); Skin Grafts and Flaps (Compromised); and Thermal Burns.
For most of our patients, however, we are using mHBOT “off-label”, which means it can be medically prescribed for a condition that the FDA has not approved. Insurance companies usually do not have the same responsibility for covering therapies that do not have an FDA approved diagnosis. The various diagnoses and their FDA status can be found in the ABOUT HBOT section
Unfortunately, we can offer no guarantee that the insurance companies will pay for HBOT.
